Chatham County, NC – February 13, 2012: Healthcare advocate and community leader, Cathy Wright, officially filed for office with the Board of Elections in Pittsboro today. Today marks the opening of the filing period which closes at the end of the month. Wright is a candidate for the newly formed North Carolina House of Representatives District 54 seat which represents Chatham County and parts of Lee County.
“Since my announcement to run in November, I have been meeting with voters in Chatham and Lee counties, listening to their concerns, and sharing my message of limited government and expanded economic opportunities for all North Carolinians,” said Wright. “The response has been positive, but my campaign is not just about me – it’s about all of us. We must work together to make sure that we can leave a legacy of opportunity for our children and grandchildren.”
Wright’s other legislative goals include prioritizing government spending while not raising taxes; protecting the environment while supporting efforts to become energy independent; getting more value for tax payers when improving education; and, promoting a free market healthcare system.
Wright has two grown children, two grandchildren, and lives with her husband John D. Wright, Jr. M.D. She has served as a board of director for her property owners association, and was a Eucharistic Minister and pastoral care visitor for her church at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. Wright is also a member of the Governors Club Women’s Golf Association, the Conservative Women’s Forum, and is Vice President (Capital Region) for the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women.

Cathy Wright Joins The Laurels in Ground Breaking Ceremony
Pittsboro, NC – January 10, 2012: Community leaders from across Chatham County gathered last week at a ground breaking ceremony at The Laurels of Chatham. The Laurels of Chatham employs over 100 healthcare professionals who provide skilled nursing and rehabilitation care to patients in Chatham County, Sanford, and western Wake County. The construction project includes 1,643 square feet of space which will house the physical, occupational, and speech therapy services in the Rehabilitation Center. The facility will help patients gain a higher level of independence and quality of life by increasing access to early rehabilitation following injury.
"I was delighted to be invited to join in the launch celebration with the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce and other Chamber leaders. I enjoyed talking with the great staff members at the Laurels and meeting like-minded people in the healthcare industry." Wright said after the event.
Wright continued, “In the current economic environment, it is wonderful to see businesses in our community growing. As a former nurse and healthcare advocate, I support a free-market healthcare system, directed by the citizens and their providers. An intrusive, government-led healthcare system like ObamaCare will bankrupt our freedom and our economy. The successful passage of meaningful liability reform in the 2011 legislature was a good start toward lowering healthcare costs. I look forward to working toward additional solutions that can support more local companies like The Laurels who do such an excellent job serving the medical needs of our community."
